Computers are developing day by day. Nowadays these are developing in specifications, sizes and many more. In this blog, i am going to describe computers in different sizes.
Computer was first invented 1822 by Charles Babbage.
The first computer was a mechanical computer. From then the research of developing the computer was going on and as a result we get four types of computers now. The description of the four types of computers are written below.
1. The Super-Computer
Among all the computers, the supercomputer is the most powerful and largest computer which consists multiple processors running together to make it more powerful and faster. A super computer can perform billions of instructions in a second. 1 supercomputer is considered with 40000 microcomputers. These are basically used for weather forecasting, nuclear science research, seismology, metrology, space research etc. The examples of supercomputers are PACE, PARAM, CDC-205, NEC SX-2, FUJITSU VP-400.
2. The Mainframe Computer
To handle huge volumes of data and information, mainframe computer is invented which supports more than 100 users at the same time. It is smaller than supercomputers. A mainframe computer provides great processing speed, largest capacity and memory. This is also known as multi-processor, multi-user, multi-tasking computer. The examples of mainframe computer are ICL39, CDC 660, VAX 8842, IBM 4381.
3. The Mini Computer
Minicomputer is smaller than mainframe computer but larger than microcomputer. It is powerful than micro computer in terms of capabilities and power. It prefers multi user system and also capable of handling more input and output devices. The examples of mini computers are PDP-11, VAX, 7500 MAGNUM.
4. The Micro Computer
In the types of computer, microcomputer is the smallest type. The computers we basically use, all are microcomputers. These are widely used, cheapest and fastest growing computers. These are basically invented for pesonal uses, entertainment, work purposes and education. The example of microcomputers are Dextop, Netbooks, Table pc, Notebooks, Laptops, Hand-held.
